About IQ K9 Academy

IQ K9 Academy is run by Alice Lee, a dog trainer and canine behaviourist with a BSc in Canine Behaviour Management and an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Training. She has worked with wolves at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust and has placed in the Crufts obedience finals several times with her own dogs.

Alice works with all kinds of dogs and owners. Some come to her with a new puppy and want to get things right from the start. Others have a rescue dog who is struggling to settle, a dog with behaviour problems, or a high-drive working breed that needs more than a walk round the park. Each dog gets a plan built around them and the people they live with.

How Alice works

Good training starts with knowing why a dog does what it does. A dog that pulls, barks or reacts badly is usually telling you something, and dealing with the cause works far better than covering up the symptoms. Alice takes the time to understand each dog’s personality, what motivates them and how they learn. Then she gives owners practical steps they can use at home.

The goal is a confident dog and an owner who understands them and enjoys training them.

Meet Alice

Alice’s interest in dogs started when she was young and never went away. It led her to study animal behaviour at degree and master’s level. She also spent time working with wolves, which gave her a first-hand look at natural instincts and how canids communicate with each other.

Since then she has worked with dogs of every breed, age and background, including many rescues and dogs with behavioural issues. She combines what the research says with what works in an ordinary home with an ordinary family.

Working dogs, Malinois and dog sports

Alice has a soft spot for Belgian Malinois and other working breeds. They are clever and athletic, and they do best when they have a job to do. Without the right outlets, that drive often ends up going in the wrong direction. Alice helps owners give their dogs the mental and physical work they need through structured training and games that use their natural instincts.

She also competes in obedience, and has placed in the Crufts obedience finals several times. Competing at that level takes precision, patience and a close partnership with your dog. That experience shapes everything she teaches, whether it’s a puppy’s first lessons or advanced competition work.
